Review: Aubrey Organics Jojoba & Aloe Desert Herb Revitalizing Conditioner

Description:
For Dry, Damaged Hair

Bring damaged, desert-dry hair back to life. Moisture-rich botanicals nourish, rebalance and rehydrate parched, overprocessed hair on contact. Milk protein strengthens and mends damaged areas and promotes elasticity to prevent breakage and leave hair touchably soft, shiny and resilient.

Key ingredients:
Organic Jojoba Oil Nourishes - adds a natural sheen

Organic Aloe Vera - replenishes moisture
Lactalbumin (milk protein) - strengthens & mends damaged areas

Ingredients:
Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Jojoba Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Lactalbumin; Extracts of Fennel, Hops, Balm Mint, Mistletoe, Camomile and Yarrow; Organic Rosemary Oil, Organic Sage Oil, Carrot Oil, Essential Oil Blend (Cedar, Grapefruit, Rose-Geranium, Lavender), Aubrey’s Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E).

Review:
I immediately felt the the tangles in my hair melting away upon impact while detangling with my finger. I put my hair in four sections and continued detangling with my Conair Shower Comb. I found the product to be pretty moisturizing providing just the right amount of slip for my personal need. The texture is a mix between my three favs, which are honey suckle rose, island naturals, and white camelia. Honeysuckle Rose will remain my favorite for a deep conditioning treatment but for a nice quick rinseout with a protein boost, you can't go wrong with this one.

Review

I don't consider myself to be protein sensitive but this stuff is horrible.

The technique that I used to apply it was on soaking wet hair over leave-in conditioner. Next, I applied Qhemet Biologics alma/olive heavy cream mixed with olive/honey hydrating balm. I added an addition step of moisture with my holy grail Ohm Sweet Hair Pudding moisturizing softhold styler.

By the end of the week, the ends of my hair felt like straw and just a simple running my finger across the end of my braidout caused major snapping. There were bits and peices of short hair every where I looked each time I put my hands in my hair.
Two weeks have passed and and I'm still trying to get my moisture balance back right.

I currently have a near 24-hour deep treatment in my hair so I don't yet know what the day will bring.
What I do know is Iwill NEVER use this crap again.
Update: Tuesday September 8, 2009 - After my 24 hour deep treatment, I applied Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-in immediately followed by Castor Oil. Next, I applied Qhemet Biologics Amla/Olive Heavy Cream and Olive/Honey Hydrating Balm. I braided my hair using Qhemet Biologics Honey Bush Tea Gel.
My hair felt amazing today when I took down my two day old braids. Very moisturized and my ends feel great.
There is nothing like this product combination to bring dry hair back to life.

Review: Qhemet Biologics - Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee

From the Qhemet Biologics web site:
Softens & detangles with pure Cocoa Butter and nourishing botanicals!

Product Description:
* Restores manageability, softness and elasticity to normal to very dry hair. Smoothes cuticles, improves combing ability and reduces breakage.
* Natural dark chocolate scent.

Ingredients: Distilled Water, Nettle, Barley, Horsetail Extracts, Pure Cocoa Butter, PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate, MSM Sulfur, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Butylene Glycol, perservatives (paraben and formaldehyde free)

Review: If you like the smell of pure cocoa, you will love the smell of Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee as it smells very much like an old-fashioned cocoa butter stick.

The product texture is thick and creamy with a slight texture to it.

I used the product as a leave-in conditioner by applying section by section prior to twisting my hair in large twist to air dry.

I was afraid it was going to cause a serious acne flair up because by the next morning. I had a sore spot on the side of my forehead and thought for sure that a big pimple was on the way. Luckily, it passed with and I didn't suffer any major outbreaks.

The product left my hair well conditioned and very moisturized. I found the product to leave my forehead a little oily the first couple of days, which I HATE.

I LOVE Qhemet Biologics Amla/Olive Heavy Cream, Olive/Honey Hydrating Balm, and Amla Oil Pomade and have used all three successfully for quite some time. The retail price is $14 for 5 ounces for so I jumped at the chance to try the product for $10 with shipping when I was contacted directly by a member of Naturally Curly's Curltalk forum.

I will not be purchasing the product again as I didn't like the overly greasy feel but am thrilled that I had the opportunity to try it.

SISTERS LOVE LOC BANDS

http://sisterslovelocbands.com/

Although I'm a loose natural, I love loc bands because they can also be use as headbands as well a way to decorate your afro puffs just like any other hair accessory.

Sister Love Loc Bands based in Union City, Georgia is now offering online shopping via Etsy.

Sisters Tracey Deck and Gayle Boyles are the creators of Sisters Love Loc Bands. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the ladies at the World Natual Hair, Health, and Beauty Show in Atlanta Georgia in April. I'm not sure which of the two sisters I met but I will never forget her warm and open personality. The service was excellent and the care that she took with packaging my product left a lasting impression.

Sisters Love Loc Bands offers some of the most beautiful and affordable pieces that I have ever seen. Please show them some support by visiting their website at http://sisterslovelocbands.com/. You can visit their online store at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24418241.

Their moto: "Wrap Love around your Locs, Not Rubberbands".

You can view the beautiful 'reversible' wooden tie that I selected by clicking here and here.

Review: Ohm Body Sweet Hair Pudding

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of Ohm Body recently at the World Natural Hair, Health, and Beauty Show in Atlanta earlier this month.

One of her products was on my wish list and when I saw her there, I was delighted.

Product: Sweet Hair Pudding was designed to stretch, moisturize and define your natural curl patterns, while giving you soft and naturally bouncy curls without a crunchy or greasy feeling.

Product Claim: Made with the moisturizing properties of Honey, Sweet Hair Pudding adds weight, definition, frizz control and gives your hair a natural and long lasting hold. This product is great when applied to wet hair.

Ingredients: Unconditional love, Honesty, Divine Wisdom, Aloe Gel, Distilled water, Shea butter, Honey, Avocado Oil, Castor Oil, Pantheon (Vitamin B5), Yarrow, Sage, Natural Thickener, Nettle, Lavender, Horsetail. Emulsifying Wax, Vitamin E, Optiphen- Preservative, Colored with Wild Cherry Extract and Fragrance Blend.

Review: OMG. I LOVE IT!!! It is the perfect moisturizer and styler in one. Honestly, it's so moisturizing that I didn't realize that it was recommended to be used as a styler until reading the label after my first use. lol

The label says: Sweet Hair Pudding: Great for coiling, twisting, and adding definition and moisture to all hair types. No worries of waxy or greasy feeling in your hair. Love the abundance of the vitamins to nourish your hair. And indulge in the hair healing properties of aloe and honey.

Aloe and honey are two of the main products that make my hair thrive so I'm in love. lol

I do not currently do wash and go styles but when doing a twist set for an afro puffs, my curls and coils were popping.

I'll definitely be repurchasing this product in the near future.

Review: Adiva Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Herbal Rinse

http://www.adivanatural.com/

Description
This Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Herbal Rinse is truly nature working it's magic. Rinsing with apple cider vinegar will help balance the pH of your hair and remove the build up that can result from the use of styling products, lint and unworthy shampoos. Rinsing will also close the cuticle scales which cover and protect the surface of each hair shaft, leaving a smoother surface which reflects more light. As a result your hair is shinier, smoother, and easier to manage.

Directions
*After shampoo simply rinse through wet hair. For extra conditioning benefits, leave in and towel dry. The vinegar scent will disappear after hair dries.

*Can be used every other week. Avoid contact with eyes, may cause stinging.

*Can also be used for body

Ingredients
Distilled water, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice

Infused with: Burdock Root, Peppermint, Chamomile, Sage, Lavender, Rosemary, Nettle, and
organic citric acid

The Great 8 Herbs Used In Our Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Herbal Hair Rinse
ACV removes greasy build up and lint, restores ph balance, promotes a healthy clean sheen.

*Burdock: great for thinning hair, dry, irritated scalp, dandruff, and seborrhea

*Catnip: Promotes healthy hair growth

*Lavender: useful for all hair types it stimulates hair growth, and degreases

*Sage: traditionally used to restore color to graying hair, excellent for week hair

*Nettle: conditions, improves color and texture, helps with dandruff, irritated scalp, and dry scalp

*Peppermint: stimulates the scalp

*Rosemary: excellent for all hair types and problems it acts as a tonic and conditioner, one of the herbs to use, gives luster and body, stimulates growth, helps with dandruff

Review
Apple cider vinegar is used ro balance the pH of your hair, remove build-up , seal the cuticle, and add shine to make you hair smoother, and easier to manage. This is why I choose to do monthly ACV rinses.

I wash in sections so after I conditioned my hair, I sprayed the product into each section from root to tip. I let it sit for about five minutes. I immediately felt my scalp tingle. As stated, you can leave the product in your hair for extra conditioning benefits but because I prefer to use ACV as a rinse (and that intense tingle (lol)), I rinsed.

Although the product is called "clarifying", I used it as a rinse so I can't say whether or not it works as a clarifier. I didn't rinse it completely out and because my hair was already shampooed and conditioned, I didn't experience any significant cleansing effects.

I'll definitely will continue using the product. Adiva recommends that you use the product once every two weeks so I may move to bi-monthly versus monthly treatments. I will repurchase the product.

Update:
On Sunday May 31, 2009 I finally took time to use the product as a clarifier. I always wash my hair in sections unless doing my monthly henna treatment. I loosed each section and sprayed the product into my scalp and hair. I allowed the product to sat on my hair for 3 - 5 minutes prior to rinsing. I definitely felt a thorough cleansing. It's a wonderful way to clarify the hair without it feeling stripped.

Donna Marie Lock & Twist Pudding

Beauty by Donna Marie

You asked for it, and its here! This pudding cream is perfect for making silky, soft locks and twists. The Lock & Twist pudding provides enough hold to mold your locks and twists as well as super conditioning and moisturizing elements that help keep your hair shiny and soft.

Paraben-free

mineral oil-free

Phtalates free

Ingredients: Deionized water, aloe vera gel, carbomer, kokum butter, mango butter, sweet almond oil, glycerin, flax seed gel extract, hibiscus extract, carrot seed extract, burdock root extract, agave nectar extract, silver citrate, potassium sorbate and natural fragrance.

Review:

This is my new favorite product for two-strand twisting. It contains my favorite products all combined into one. My hair thrives on aloe vera gel, butters, oil, glycerine.

I apply the product to small sections of hair concentrating on the roots and ends when two strand twisting. It provides a strong hold but it not at all drying.

I've gotten the best results of a twist set ever. I'm usually frizzy by day three but I have been able to keep twists in for five days and the majority still look fresh.

I tie them down and night and let shower steam and spritz plump them in the morning.

I'm hoping to make it until Friday with this set of twists.

If a product can help my twist to last eleven days, I'm a fan for life.

The product is all natural and the list of ingredients used are easy to obtain from the Donna Marie web site.
